In the year 2001, the Government of Karnataka, in association with ICICI,
set up the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology
(IBAB). With the active support of leading academic institutes
and industry, IBAB aims to attain high standards in bioinformatics
and biotechnology education, research and entrepreneurship.
Entrepreneurship is one of the mandates of the institute
and IBAB is incubating one entrepreneur in the area of diagnostics.
Recently, IBAB has joined hands with the Wadhwani Foundation
as one of the 5 founding partners of the National Entrepreneurship
Network to scale entrepreneurship activities and promote
the growth of entrepreneurs in the field of bioinformatics
and biotechnology.
"The NEN initiative is very timely. The concept
of this kind of a network is also a very valuable one since
useful partnerships can come up making use of the different
locational and domain-expertise advantages of the partners."
- Dr. Gayatri Saberwal, NEN Leader, IBAB
