The Wadhwani Foundation will host a nationwide competition
to select five anchor institutions for the National Entrepreneurship
Network (NEN). The objective of this competition is to identify
educational institutes which focus mainly on developing entrepreneurial
skills in the students.

The institutes will have to submit a feedback form providing
all the possible details on initiatives taken by them towards
developing entrepreneurial skills amongst their students.
These details will be scrutinized by a panel of international
judges which includes Sunil Mittal of Bharti Enterprise, Howard
Stevenson from the Harvard University, Jerry Rao of Mphasis,
HSBC’s Naina Lal Kidwai, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw from Biocon
India, Harsh Mariwala of Marico Industries and Romesh Wadhwani
who is the founding member of Wadhwani Foundation.
Elaborating on the hospitality and tourism management institutes
who have been invited to participate in the competition, Sunita
Singh, head-marketing and communication, Wadhwani Foundation
said, “Hospitality and tourism education being an important
stream, it also offers students lot of exposure in understanding
the operations and management of a hotel and restaurant. Keeping
their role in mind in entrepreneurial development, we have
invited approximately 15 institutes from across the country
to participate and have received an overwhelming response
from them. As a policy I won’t be in a position to provide
you the names of all the hotel and tourism management institutes.”
The winners of the 2003 competition will receive, from the
Wadhwani Foundation non-financial support and seed funding
in the range of USD 10,000 to USD 50,000. “The purpose
of this funding is to support the development of full plan
for entrepreneurial development offerings, as well as to fund
some of the institution’s current entrepreneurial activities.
Based on the strength of the plans developed, the institutions
will each be eligible to receive further funding of USD 250
to USD 1 million, spread over multiple years, from Wadhwani
Foundation,” confirmed Parkin.
